The people using ferry for transport between islands expressed concern about any possible disaster similar to that in Kinniya when a ferry capsized causing the death of several passengers.
They pointed out that they had been using the ferry to travel between Karainagar and Urukavanthurai islands, a distance of about 500 metres. They said the distance they had to travel was about 40 kilometres by land.  They requested the authorities to built a permanent bridge to prevent any possible danger to their life.
