First Mayor of Moratuwa passes away

Asitha Chandradasa, Mayor of the Moratuwa A.T.K. Chandradasa, the first Mayor of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, passed away on November 13, 2024.   
Before assuming office as Mayor, he had an extensive career in the Administrative Service. He served as a Government Agent and also held the position of Executive Director. In addition, he was the Chairman of the Cement Corporation and the Shipping Corporation.   
An honest and efficient public servant, Chandradasa also served as the Private Secretary to the then Minister of Ports and Aviation Chamal Rajapaksa, and the Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha.   
After retiring from government service, he entered politics and was elected as Mayor, securing the highest number of 
preferential votes.   
The funeral arrangements were made at his residence, where the public was invited to pay their respects on November 16.   
The body was then taken to the Municipal Council Auditorium, Moratuwa for further tributes, and subsequently proceeded to the Rawathawatta Public Burial Grounds for cremation.
