The visiting Indian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sr Bhashwardan Sringala yesterday paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic at the Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa. He told the media that he visited Kandy only to pay homage to the tooth relic and not to talk about any political issues.
He said he was pleased to visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa commencing his tour in Sri Lanka.
Indian foreign minister pointed out that the purpose of his visit to Sri Lanka was to strengthen bi-lateral religious and cultural relations between the two countries that run as far back as the ancient times.
He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the proposed Kandyan Dancing Centre in Pallekele and that he was pleased to find the project nearing completion. Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela presented him a memento to mark his visit.
Indian High Commissioner Gopal Bagle and Asst. High Commissioner Dr. Mrs. Athira was present at the occasion.
