UNP Kalutara District candidate former Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma yesterday said he had decided to withdraw from the election.

Mr. Thevarapperuma said he already had a discussion with the chairman of the Election Commission and informed of his decision to withdraw from the election.  “I am frustrated by the police who prevented me from providing relief to people in my electorate several times.

A police officer went to the extent of threatening me. I therefore had a discussion with the Chairman of the Election Commission and decided to withdraw from the Election,” he said. Mr. Thevarapperuma denied reports that he sought help from UPFA former MP Namal Rajapaksa to get clearance to distribute relief during curfew hours. “I only got permission from the Divisional Secretariat Office to distribute relief and the police did not accept this permit,” he said.
