The two conditions that have been laid out by the SJB is that telephone has to be the symbol of the alliance and that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe should keep away from it.

However the UNPers believe that there is no issue with its leadership as former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided not to contest any election.   Earlier former MP Harin Fernando who spoke to the media publicly confirmed this position and expressed his displeasure that an opportunity to form a joint opposition alliance is lost because of the conditions laid out by certain parties.

“An opportunity is lost because of conditions laid out by certain parties and it is rather frustrating,” he told media.  Former President Wickremesinghe earlier appointed Ruwan Wijewardene and Talatha Athukorala to talk to the SJB and to form a common opposition alliance.
