Gale force wind causes extensive damage in Nawalapitiya

A gale force wind that hit the Nawalapitiya area in the early last morning had caused extensive damage to several estate line houses. However, none of the occupants was not injured in the incident. 

Police said the displaced people had found shelter with their relatives.  

Police said the power supply to the area had been interrupted due to the stormy weather condition experienced in the area.  

Meanwhile heavy rains lashed in the Matara District causing obstructions to civilian lives. A huge tree in Ellakanda  had fallen across the Matara- Yatiyana Road causing disruption to traffic and the power supply to several areas.
