Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader, MP Udaya Gammanpila said he had decided to use paper material made out of free-growing plants to print the cards for the upcoming general election. Addressing a news briefing, he said if other candidates had also followed this, we could lend a hand to finish the aggressive breeding plants such as Salvinia in Sri Lanka.
He also said that the paper material used for such cards contain vegetable seeds and therefore the said cards could be planted as well.

He stressed the need to carry out election campaigning without the usage of polythene and plastics. “President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has shown us how election campaigns could be conducted without using polythene and plastics. We remind other candidates as well to minimize polythene and plastic usage,” the MP said.
