Three suspects including a 16-year-old boy were arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with gold biscuits worth more than Rs.50 million last morning, airport senior official said.

He said the suspects aged 26, 33 and 16 were arrested at the arrival lounge of the airport.

During the investigations, the PNB officers found 32 gold biscuits and gold jewellery packed into four parcels in their possession.

“The suspects were not professional or habitual smugglers. According to them, the gold parcels were handed over to them by some passengers at the arrival lounge to take them out of the airport premises.   The parcels contained necklaces, bangles, earrings and rings among the gold biscuits.

The suspects who were residents of Dematagoda, Wellampitiya and Kegalle, will be handed over to the Customs Department for further investigations.
