Gun accidentally misfires injuring seven-year-old girl

A seven-year-old girl from the Makulugaswewa area was injured when a loaded firearm hidden in the corner of her house accidentally went off.

Investigations revealed that her mother and grandmother were changing their clothes to go to the temple when the gun, entangled in a cloth, fell on the ground and misfired. Police said the girl’s uncle, after watching his Chena against wild animals at night, had left his unlicensed gun in the house. The lower limbs of the girl were injured. Her uncle, who had hidden his unlicensed gun in the house, was arrested by Makulugaswewa Police pending further investigations.
