Trembling waves that lashed against the land in Kalutara North due to a high tide on Tuesday evening (07) had caused extensive damage to 26 houses and several tourist hotels.

Residents of the area said it was for the second time that a high tide in the sea off Kalutara was experienced this year. They said the waves started lashing against the land all at once. They pointed out that the Kalido beach that had been damaged by floods was restored recently by pumping sand from the deep sea and the waves came trembling over the restored sand bar.

DIG Kalutara Division Vijitha Gunaratne who visited the area carried out an inspection and took action to protect the houses from waves by laying sand bags.
