Implementing PCoI report recommendations: Cabinet sub-committee decision before April 21

The five-member cabinet subcommittee that reviews the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) that probed the Easter Sunday massacre would pave the way to file charges against those who have direct connections to the carnage before April 21, Co Cabinet spokesman and Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said yesterday.   

Addressing the weekly cabinet news briefing last morning, Minister Pathirana added that the task of the five member cabinet subcommittee appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was to review the PCoI report and find a way on how to go ahead with its recommendations.   

“We are not supposed to make any new recommendations, establish any institution or propose amendments or changes. Our only task is to find a way on how to carry out recommendations of the PCoI. The sole responsibility to frame charges against those who involved directly or indirectly in the bomb attack as identified by the PCoI lies in the hands of the Attorney General,” Minister Pathira, noted.   

Minister Ramesh Pathirana said the Easter Sunday mayhem was entirely the result of mismanagement, misrule and rivalry among top hierarchy of the yahapalana government.
