Hela Bojun Hala stalls would be opened at all railway stations next year to promote traditional foods and to provide better food for commuters, the Railway Services State Minister C. B. Rathnayake said yesterday.
Speaking to the media he said, the cafeterias in all railway stations did not maintain proper quality and the canteens available did not have clean food
for commuters.
“Every passenger likes to have food in a clean environment. In most places, people are compelled to have their meals and tea near receptacles with garbage.
“Therefore the ministry has decided to have Hela Bojun Hala stalls in every railway station in discussion with the agriculture minister. By doing so, many employment opportunities would be created,” he said.
He said that the ministry also plans to have Hela Bojun Hala stalls on board long-distance trains to facilitate the passengers. Many long-distance trains do not have buffet cars.
