The Incumbent President has bowed down to the IMF and accepted the instruction not to reduce taxes, Former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.

“President wanted to reduce taxes but the IMF advised him not to do so. Therefore the President and the government has accepted the IMF’s instruction. The President who pledged that he won’t bow down to the IMF has actually started dancing according to its tune,”Premadasa told a rally in Mattakuliya.

“President has failed to bring in the systems change he promised,” Premadsa added.

He also said taxes and prices of essential goods could be reduced immediately. “ One does not have to wait for the General election to reduce taxes and price of essential goods such as fuel,” he said in this regard.

“I would like to remind the President to be democratic rather than trying to become a dictator. The recent criticism on media is a sign that he is trying adopt dictatorial policies,” Premadasa said.
