Japanese man nabbed with foreign currency at BIA

A 38-year-old Japanese man was arrested by the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to leave the country with foreign currency amounting to over 
Rs.8 million.   


He was arrested when he tried to board a Sri Lankan flight to depart for Japan on Saturday.   


Additional Director General of Customs Sunil Jayaratne said the suspect who works in a development project in Sri Lanka, had declared only US Dollars 1,000 on his departure.   
The officers recovered Japanese Yen 5 million (Rs.8,130, 500) from the suspect’s luggage.
