Lakdinu wins prestigious Speak Out for Engineering Global finals

Lakdinu De Silva, a mechanical engineering undergraduate from the University of Ruhuna, won the Speak Out for Engineering (SofE) Global finals at the competition organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on November 5, 2024, in Dubai.

Lakdinu’s journey to this remarkable achievement began when he secured victory at the SofE Sri Lanka finals on September 2, 2023, in Colombo. He then went on to compete in the SofE Southern Asia Region (SAR) finals, where he outperformed contestants from India and Bangladesh on June 8, 2024, in Kathmandu, Nepal.  

This year’s global finals featured seven contestants from various IMechE regions worldwide, showcasing their public speaking and leadership skills. Lakdinu’s outstanding performance earned him a cash award of GBP 1,000 and a certificate, solidifying his status as a leading young engineer.
