Ministry of Skills Development, Employment and Labour to mobilise Special task teams

With the aim of protecting work sites from the spread of Coronavirus or Covid19, the relations has decided to set up special task teams. The Labour Department informs that this decision was taken at a special meeting of representatives of the Employers Federation, and Trade Union delegates held at the Labour department chaired by Minister Dinesh Gunawardene.

The Labour Department states that these steps are being taken with the intention of minimizing the impact that may affect Sri Lanka’s economy. The Labour Department further requests that committees be set up in all Island wide work sites to safeguard against any probable effects of the Covid19 virus. The special Task Committees that are being set up at the Labour Department would include representatives of the Employers Federation and representatives of trade unions who would oversee the functioning of the committees set up at institutional levels, and also propose to the government of actions to be taken to minimize the impact the virus would have on the country’s economy.
