During discussions held at the weekly cabinet meeting, Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has requested to increase the limit of students participating at a tuition class to 500 under the recommendations of the Health Ministry. Minister said that he drew the attention of the President, the Prime Minister and the Health Minister in this regard at the cabinet meeting. According to the Elections Commissioner, mainstream political parties have requested to increase the maximum number of participants in main election rallies addressed by the respective party leaders to 500 from 100.
He said said the organisers of elections meetings are required to inform the Public Health Inspector (PHI) and the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of the area before conducting such meetings. Earlier, the Education Ministry decided to allow a maximum of 100 students at a tuition class with the recommendations of the Health Ministry, Minister Alahapperuma said. He said however that some tuition classes accommodate a maximum of 1,000 students. “There is no injustice in increasing the number of students and by holding a private tuition class with 500 students since election rallies are also permitted to allow 500 people under health recommendations,” the
Minister added.
