Referring to a recent ‘video’ by a clergyperson within its constituent membership, where she is seen to be canvassing for a political party at the forthcoming election, National Christian Council of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) said the views expressed by the clergyperson in the said video, were not in any way a reflection of a position taken by the NCCSL.

It said in a statement that the video was causing undue publicity in the social media among the faithful community as well as the general public.

“As a faith-based entity and a body corporate of churches and ecumenical organisations, NCCSL does not engage in ‘party politics’ nor support any political party. We do concern ourselves on issues of national importance and will support them, representing the general public of the country in such matters.”

“As a responsible and a collective body in Christ, we will, on principle, desist from using the name, identity or heritage of any other denomination/s without their consent.”
“We regret any pain of mind or hurt caused to anyone by the sentiments expressed by the clergyperson in question.’’
