A stock of unregistered delay spray was seized by National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) officials when they raided a pharmacy operating without retail licence in Ethul Kotte last evening. The officials on information raided the pharmacy which had been operating for a year without renewing its annual retail licence to sell medicines or pharmaceutical goods.
NMRA officials told the Daily Mirror the owner of the pharmacy had been running his business after dusk to avoid authorities that usually popping up during the daytime in search of his premises licence. They found a stock of imported delay spray used by men as a precautionary for premature ejaculation among the displayed items for sale, which had not been registered with the NMRA.
The officials also seized a stock of physician sample drugs from the premises, which are not supposed to be sold. Pharmaceutical companies give physician sample drugs to doctors free of charge through their reps for promotional purposes. The pharmacy was raided by Chief Food and Drug Inspector of NMRA Amith Perera and the team, who had sealed the premises afterwards.
The owner of the pharmacy was arrested and was released on a bail bond of Rs.100,000 asking to appear before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Courts on June 21st.
