The remarks made by National People’s Power (NPP) candidate Lakshman Nipuna arachchi that the new government would dissolve trade unions is disturbing, former Minister and New Democratic Front (NDF) Candidate Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.

Speaking to media at a weekly fair in Colombo, Premajayantha said trade union leaders such as Joseph Stalin should come up with their stand on the dissolving of trade unions.
Nipuna arachchi however promised a period of transition after the General Election.

He also said experienced persons should be sent to Parliament in order to maintain its discipline. “It is important to maintain discipline of the House. One cannot afford to turn it into a battlefield. We will do our utmost to fulfill our duty if elected to Parliament,” he said.

“We hope that the incumbent President Anura Kumara Dissanayke will not be misled like how former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was misled by some officers. I remember I made a comment about the high prices of vegetables and of the ban of chemical fertiliser at the fair and I was removed from the cabinet the very next day,” he recalled.
