A young man who attempted to flee to France on forged travel documents was arrested by the Border Surveillance Unit of Bandaranaike International Airport on Monday night (02) when he called over at the Silk Route departure terminal for Business Class passengers.

 The 36-year-old suspect was a resident of Uduvil in Jaffna and a field officer of a private sector company.

 Immigration and Emigration Officers who examined his travel documents handed him over to the Airport Border Surveillance Unit on suspicion;

 Investigations revealed that he was in possession of another individual’s passport faked with his photo and that he had obtained a Business Class ticket to use the Silk Route departure terminal avoiding any suspicion.

 The officers had checked his bags and baggage to find a forged Italian passport and a French residential Visa containing information that he had lived in France. However, interrogations revealed that he had never visited France.    The forged Italian passport contained forged seals of Maldivian, Italian and Sri Lankan Immigration and Emigration authorities.

 The suspect was handed over to the CID for further action. He was to be produced before Negombo magistrate last morning.
