General  Secretary of the SLFP and former Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said yesterday  that the 11 party alliance and the SLFP were still to see the contents of the  No Confidence Motion (NCM)  to be moved in Parliament by the SJB against  the government.

Without  perusing the draft of the NCM and a consensus among the two groups, it was  difficult for the SLFP and the 11 party alliance to support the NCM, he  added.

Commenting  on the claim by the SJB that the draft of the NCM was shown to the SLFP and  the 11 party stalwarts, Jayasekara admitted that a discussion was held  between the two groups and Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, General  Secretary of the SJB Ranjith Maddumabandara and Parliamentarian Eran  Wickramaratne attended the meeting.

“At  that meeting, Premadasa made several proposals including the moving of an  NCM, abolishing of the 20th Amendment and promulgation of the 21st  A  to the Constitution and abolishing of the Executive Presidency  forthwith.  Premadasa was also in  agreement to the formation of an all party interim government. We suggested  to prioritize the formation of the interim government as NCM is not necessary  if and when a interim government is formed. No discussion on the NCM was held  at this meeting,” Jayasekara said.

Jayasekara  reiterated that it was not possible to pass the NCM without the support of  the SLFP and the 11 party alliance. Therefore, the SJB must talk to them and  obtain their support to ensure the successful conclusion of the NCM process  and topple the much hated SLPP regime.
