Opposition has gone politically bankrupt today because of its leadership crisis. Chief Government Whip and Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando said yesterday.

Addressing a public meeting in Kurunegala , Minister Fernando said the Opposition was now bankrupt politically because of the leadership tussle between SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP Patali Champika Ranwaka. “MP Harin Fernando, Mr. Ranawaka and Premadasa are playing with fire today. He is trying to outset Mr. Premadasa and bring in another group to lead SJB,” Minister Fernando said. “Also the Presidential Commission appointed by former President Maithripala Sirisena has found Mr. Premadasa guilty. They attack President Gotabaya Raapaksa but they are almost finished politically,” he added.

Minister Fernando then when on to criticise former JVP MP Namal Karunaratne whom he said was making a false claim that then government was engaged in soil- harvesting in Kurunegala. “ I have ordered to halt the soil-harvesting by the time he made the allegation. JVP is also politically bankrupt. Opposition will have to wait for a long time to regain power as our government will fulfil all its pledges,” he said.
