Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday announced the setting up of a special unit at his office and the appointment of a task force to preserve environment.
Mr. Premadasa told a press conference that the unit and the task force would launch a special programme ‘ Jathika Parisara Sanrakshana Wagakeema ( National Enviroment Protection Responsibility) and would fight against several projects that had got off the ground which led to environment destruction.

“The task force will comprise MPs- Mayantha Dissanayake, Rohini Kaviratne, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha , Dr. Kavinda Jayawardene and Buddhika Pathirana. SJB therefore will be the first political party to launch an environment protection programme in the history of Sri Lanka,” Mr. Premadasa said.
