PAFFREL reveals acts of post- election violence Individual harassment and hospitalisation of 20 people had been reported

People’s Action for Free and Fair Election Organisation (PAFFREL) said that 28 cases of individual harassment and  hospitalisation of 20 people had been reported on November 17, 18 and 19 after the  Presidential election held on the 16th. 

 
Executive Director of PAFFREL Organisation Rohana Hettiarachchi said that the acts were treated as post-election acts and there  had been 35 incidents of individual harassment reported within 1 ½ months before the election.   


He said that the information  was being collected for instituting legal action against those who were involved in post- election violence.   


The Election Commission had, especially requested on several occasions to provide  information in order to take legal action against  appointments that were made during the election time. However, so far no relevant information had been received.   


Mr. Hettiarachchi also said that the legal action would be taken immediately after obtaining the required information.
