PC arrested for bribery

A Police Constable from the Medagama Police was arrested yesterday by  investigators of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on suspicion of accepting a gratification of Rs.3000 from a suspect.  

He had promised a suspect taken into custody for selling toddy to produce only a part of the toddy seized during the raid and not to report his previous offences to court, and demanded a gratification of Rs.3000.   

He was arrested while receiving the gratification from the suspect.   

The suspect PC was produced before the Bibila magistrate and remanded till August 12. Investigations Officers said he would be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
