The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said that it was prepared to support Muslim Parliamentarians if further attempts were made to oppress minorities by influencing the Government decisions through threats and violence.
Jaffna District MP and the Spokesman of TNA M.A. Sumanthiran said that it had become inevitable for Tamils to join hands with Muslims in view of the pressures against the Muslim community.
He said that the Parliament would be redundant if decisions on Government affairs could be taken by outsiders.
The Parliamentarian recalled that the people of the country had to face a gruesome war for over 30 years due to the abrogation of Bandaranaike -Chelvanayagam pact due to pressures by a few monks and said that the removal of Muslim Ministers this time was the result of the pressure exerted by a few people.
Contending that resignation of portfolios and taking a common stance on the present crisis by the Muslim Ministers would not go well with the Government and warned that the present division would lead to deeper conflict.
While pointing out that there was a way to solve problems Sumanthiran added that nothing would be resolved through violence or undue pressures.
