Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris said that the planned vaccine roll-out against COVID-19 will strengthen public confidence in the government’s effort to eradicate the pandemic.

He told the media in Kandy that the health sector employees would be vaccinated first and that the senior citizens who were the most vulnerable to the virus would be among the priority groups.

Prof.Peiris said that the medical specialists had confirmed that the vaccine invented by Oxford University was the most effective and that the medical specialists were of the opinion that the use of the PFizer vaccine was not practicable in Sri Lanka. He said the vaccination campaign would be subject to the instructions of the health authorities.    “President Gotabaya Rajapakse has reiterated that the Eastern Container Terminal of the Colombo Port will not be leased out or alienated to another country. Sri Lanka will retain 51 percent shares of the proposed venture to manage the Eastern Terminal.” he said.

He said that the independence of the Judiciary was an integral part of democracy and that the forward march of a democratic country would not be possible if it was undermined.
