Police Investigate mock election at Embilipitiya

Embilipitya police are investigating  a mock election held by an individual in Embilipitiya town and sharing the results on facebook.  

Police said they had received a complaint from a Presidential Election candidate from the SLPP Janaka Priyantha Kumara Ratnayake.  

The complainant stated that the individuals who held the mock election had distributed model ballot papers containing the names of six candidates in the fray among about 1000 people in Embilipitiya town and held the poll in an enclosure made of cardboard with a ballot box. Later the result purported to be the decision of the people of Embilipitiya had been shared on facebook.  

The complainant Janaka Ratnayake has requested the police to take action against the individuals responsible for this irregularity that amounted to violation of Clause 66 of the Presidential Election Act No 15 of 1981.
