Claiming that the police had acted in different ways in two similar incidents of egg attack on JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the attack on Ragama Medical Faculty undergrads, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday called on the police to conduct a proper investigation on the egg attack as well.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that the two suspects who were held over the egg attack had been released after recording a statement and that they had not been arrested.

He said police had not conducted a proper investigation into the incident and alleged that there had been an intervention of a higher political authority to stop investigations.

“This shows the government’s involvement in the incident,” he said.

Mr. Silva said police had swiftly acted and arrested the suspects with regard to the attack on medical students of the Ragama Medical faculty after tracing the vehicle detained by the students.

“Police have acted differently in the two incidents. There has been no political intervention in the investigations of the Ragama incident, whereas there has been a political influence on the investigations into the egg attack,’ he said.
