Police action against 59,216 individuals for violation of the curfew

The Sri Lanka Police have charged 59,216 individuals for violation of the curfew regulations and 5,660 out them had been convicted by yesterday under the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance, for the violation of 
curfew regulations.   

The total number of vehicles detained was 16,499 while during the 24 hours ending at 12.00 noon yesterday alone, 179 men and women and 63 vehicles had been detained for similar offences.   

Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said the health and security protocol issued by the government to be effective from May 11th for public and private sector employees and the public would be applied 
island wide.   

Accordingly, People are permitted to travel in a private vehicle between 10.30 am and 3.00 pm using the curfew permit and others using the last digit of the NIC in curfew imposed Districts.   

All construction sites are permitted to open and resume construction and delivery and transport of building material like bricks, sand, cement and tiles are permitted. The management of the building sites must ensure that only the essential number of workers are deployed for work.   

With the resumption of work in the Public and private sectors yesterday coinciding with the relaxation of curfew, a larger number of employees attended their work places, A Transport Minister spokesman said yesterday.   
‘It is glad to witness that a majority of them follow basic protocol like washing hands after alighting the train or bus, wearing a face mask etc. With the increase of travelling by employees, the Sri Lanka railways used 19 trains as opposed to 10 which were used last week to transport passengers to the city,” he said.   

The SLTB had introduced 3,700 buses around the country to serve passengers in the 23 districts where the curfew is not in force and in Colombo and Gampaha, where curfew is currently in force. 

 
 Curfew in 23 Districts will be effective for 9 hours daily from 8.00 pm to 5.00 am on the following day till Saturday, (May 23) while in the Colombo and Gampaha, Districts curfew will be in force round the clock until further notice. 

People are permitted to travel in a private vehicle between 10.30 am and 3.00 pm using the curfew permit and others using the last two digits of the NIC in curfew imposed Districts.
