President Ranil Wickremesinghe symbolically awarded 442 out of the allotted 5,000 land deeds to the residents of the Mannar District today.

This event, part of the ‘Urumaya’ national programme, aims to grant 2 million freehold deeds across the country.

The ceremony took place at the Mannar Municipal Council Auditorium, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

The ‘Urumaya’ programme is a cornerstone initiative of the current administration, seeking to provide secure land ownership to millions of citizens, thereby fostering economic stability and development.

In addition to the deed distribution, President Wickremesinghe held a special District Development Committee meeting at the Mannar District Secretariat.

The meeting included participation from all government and opposition parliamentarians, as well as key officials, to assess and review the progress of ongoing projects within the district.

Meanwhile President also called on Bishop of Mannar Rev. Emmanuel Fernando at Mannar Bishops’s House where he informed the former about land distribution to the people in the area and other development plans.
