Member of the Central Province Public Service Commission Keerthi Wickremeratne contesting the presidential election has been removed from the PSC by Governor Central Province Lalith U.Gamage.

The governor has taken this step since the PSC member had tendered nominations without prior notice or permission of the governor.

The governor said, it was a violation of regulations and the circulars applicable to the PCS to engage in politics claiming that he discharged his duties and functions independently as a member of the PSC.

He further said presidential election candidate Kirthi Wickremeratne is no longer in a position to function as a member of the PSC and that steps were taken to remove him from the post in terms of section 33(3) of the Provincial Councils Act.
