Vegetable prices at the Dambulla Economic Centre had shot up due to the increasing demand bringing a remunerative market to the farmers.

Representatives of farmer organisations pointed out that traders from distant areas had not turned up for the last several days and that it resulted in the price increase.

Farmers from Naula and Ambana said the retail price of capsicum that had declined to Rs.20 was now more than Rs.90 and that the price of brinjals was about Rs.100.

They pointed out that the prices of other varieties of vegetables were increasing.
