The detainees under quarantine in the Bogambara Old Prison- quarantine centre for prisoners yesterday staged a protest demanding the authorities to perform PCR tests and to look into  other issues affecting them.
While, more than 750 detainees participated in the protest,  about 50 of them  got on to the roof of the prison.
They accused the authorities of delaying the PCR tests and not taking steps to prevent the spread of the disease in prisons despite several infected prisoners being reported.

Police and the prison security officers had stepped up security in and around the prison.

Meanwhile a senior prison officer said a group of detainees in the Bogambara quarantine centre would be transferred to Negombo and Kegalle Prisons.
