Private bus operators stage protest at Galle bus terminal

A group of private bus operators yesterday staged a protest in front of the Galle bus terminal compelling the government, to permit the operation of the inter- provincial bus services as usual.   

The protest was organised by the Inter Provincial Private Bus Operators Union.   

Organiser of the protest A.S.Dhammika said several bus operators receiving the patronage of the National Transport Commission were transporting passengers charging exorbitant fares under the pretext of transporting the staff of government institutions including the National Hospital.   

He pointed out that those buses carrying the label of government institutions could pass the police check points without any restriction.
