Sudarshana syrup has not been recommended as a medicine prescribed for COVID-19 but Sudarshana choorana could be prescribed as an ayurvedic treatment for the disease, two State Ministers told Parliament yesterday.
State Ministers Channa Jayasumana and Sisira Jayakody who were responding to a question raised by SJB MP Harsha de Silva said no one should prevent the use of Sudarshana choorana being used as an ayurvedic medicine.

“Sudarshana choorana is a traditional ayurvedic medicine which has been used for more than 3000 years. The choorana is the ayurvedic form of treatment which has been converted into a Western medicine syrup lately. This syrup is not recommended as a treatment for COVID-19 as it is not proven as an effective Western medicine as yet,” Professor Jayasumana said.

Therefore no one should prevent the usage of it for treating COVID-19 patients,” he added.

The State Minister refuted allegations that he is engaged in the distribution of Sudarshana syrup.
Mr. Jayakody said using the ayurvedic form of Sudharshana should be encouraged as it has no after effects because it is made out of medicinal plants.
