Condemning the incident where a university student was warded after being injured as a result of ragging, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said that ragging should be banned and made a criminal offence.
“It is sad to hear about the horrendous incident which has sent a bright young university student to salvage his life through a life support system. Ragging should be banned and made a criminal offence with severe punitive measures in order to ensure its prevention,” Mr. Premadasa said in his latest twitter message. . “Let us all unite to ensure that those who perpetrated this heinous crime are prosecuted and severely punished so that there will be no recurrence in the future,” he added. Pasindu Hirushan who studied at the Udugampola St Peter’s College was reported to be on a life support system after he was ragged by the senior students of Sri Jayewardenepura University last week. He entered the management faculty of Sri Jayewardenepura University in December 2019 after obtaining 3 ‘A’s at the GCE Advanced Level examination.
Let us all unite to ensure that those who perpetrated this heinous crime are prosecuted and severely punished so that there will be no recurrence in the future
