Rapist of teenager sentenced to 12 years RI

A 41-year old man was sentenced to 12 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing  16- year- old girl at a private child development centre, the National Child Protection Authority 
(NCPA) said.  


The Special Investigations Unit of the NCPA launched an investigation into the sexual abuse following a complaint that was  made and arrested the suspect, a resident of Pitakotte, at the child development centre.


Accordingly, the Attorney General filed a case against the suspect in the Colombo High Court which  convicted the suspect sentencing him to 12 years rigorous imprisonment.  
In addition to the sentence, a fine of Rs.10,000 was also imposed on the accused and was ordered to pay a sum of Rs. 250,000 as compensation to the victim, in default the jail term would be further extended to four more years.
