Renowned Mahila Samiti leader Rukmani Premaratne bids adieu

Well known Mahila Samiti leader Rukmani Chandra Premaratne passed away yesterday at the age of 84 following a brief illness.

Mrs. Premaratne was the former President of Lanka Mahila Samiti in Matara and Hambantota. She was the beloved wife of late Licensed Surveyor and Court Commissioner Mr. Selvin Premaratne and daughter of late Stephen and Darleen Samarawickrama.   

Rukmani Premaratne, who rendered a yeomen service to empower rural women, leaves behind daughter Shiroma (UK), sons Roshan and Hiran and son-in-law Sherman Gooneratne (UK). She was also the grandmother of Dr. Selani, Dr. Mathew and Thumri of UK and sister of Dr. Willie (Australia), late Dulcie, late Percy and late Garvin.   
Her remains lie at 22/2B, Ekwatte Road, Jubilee Post, Nugegoda. Cortège leaves residence at 3.00pm on Sunday (23) and cremation at 4.30pm General Cemetery, Borella.
