JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake yesterday requested Constitutional Council Chairman Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to call for a report from the National Police Commission (NPC) Chairman over the decision taken by it to transfer the Kurunegala District DIG and cancel it soon after it was made.

He told parliament that such incidents raise doubts among the people as to whether it was done due to political influence.

“Media reported that the DIG was transferred and two hours later it was reported that the transfer was cancelled. These incidents create suspicion. We feel that the members of the CC were acting irresponsibly,” he said.

Constitutional Council Chairman Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said he had discussed the matter with NPC Chairman and the IGP and added that the matter would be resolved soon.
He admitted that the revoking of decisions made by the NPC was unacceptable.
