Rs.1.4Mn withdrawn with stolen ATM card While victim receiving treatment in hospital

An individual taken into custody on suspicion of stealing the ATM card of a patient under treatment at the Kalutara General Hospital in Nagoda and withdrawing Rs.1.4 million was produced before Kalutara Chief Magistrate and remanded for 14 days pending further investigations.   


The suspect had in his possession Rs.300,000 of the stolen money at the time of arrest. Investigations revealed that he had deposited the balance with a motor vehicle dealer to purchase a trishaw. 


A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Branch Kalutara Police IP Nayanajith had conducted investigations and arrested the suspect.
