The government has allocated Rs. 400 million to distribute an allowance of Rs. 5,000 each to those who have lost their income due to the curfew imposed in Gampaha District. Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that under the first phase, the Rs. 5,000 allowance will be given to 72,345 families in the Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, Attanagalla and Mirigama Divisional Secretariats including the five villages where curfew was imposed.
Gampaha District Secretary Sunil Jayalath said that all arrangements have been made to provide this allowance from Tuesday (20) under the coordination of the Samurdhi Development Department. The District Secretary said that on the instructions of Basil Rajapaksa and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the allowance will also be provided to the people living in the other 16 police areas in the Gampaha District where the curfew has been imposed, under the second phase.
