Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devala Sixth procession with special events tonight

The sixth procession of the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devala will take place on the 11th night followed by several significant events.  

The traditional ritual of thatching the Mahadevala awning with leaves brought from nearby jungles will be performed this morning. The exposition of the tusks of King Dutugemunu’s royal tusker “ Kadol” will begin today.  

Basnayake Nilame Dishan Gunasekara, attired in his official costumes will march in the procession tonight for the first time during the festival. He will hold an alms giving at the Basnayake Nilame’s traditional quarters.
