Chief Incumbent of the Bellanvila Rajamaha Vihara Ven. Dhammarathana Thera said the United National Party had suffered a debacle and that its present Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene had the prime responsibility of reorganising it.

Delivering an Anusasana during a Bodhi Pooja programme attended by Former State Minister of Defence , Ven. Thera pointed out that the country needed strong political parties for the smooth functioning of democracy. He said the UNP should remain a strong political party and a guardian of democracy in the country. Ven Dhammarathana Thera said Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene would be responsible for reorganising and strengthening the party.

“However in your endeavour to reorganise the party, you must protect yourself from threats within the party more than those from outside. You must guard yourself from such obstacles in your  march forward” Ven.Dhammarathana Thera further said.
