Referring to the protest carried out by school teachers and principals unions in Colombo, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith Mannapperuma yesterday said the protesters should not jeopardise children’s education.

The MP said he would not welcome the decision made by the teachers and school principals to take to the streets. “Heeding to fair demands of school principals and teachers is another matter, in the event there are fair demands. However, one cannot endorse jeopardising the future of school children,” he said.

The MP claimed that none of the SJBers participated in yesterday’s protests.

“We would not hesitate to support good deeds of the government as we adopted a different kind of behaviour than of a traditional opposition,” he also said. School principals and teachers held a protest in Colombo yesterday, blocking roads and the police had to use water cannons and tear gas to disperse them.
