There is nothing wrong in Minister of Health throwing Eliyantha White’s pots of water into the rivers, but she made a mistake by publicising it, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP said yesterday.
SJB MP Hesha Withanage told a press conference yesterday that he did not see anything wrong in Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi throwing pots of water into the river as observances such as these had been a tradition in Sri Lanka even during the ancient times.
“There was nothing wrong in Health Minister engaging in a tradition but the issue was that she publicised it by taking a media crew with her. She should have done it discreetly,” Mr.Withanage said.
“However her statement that said she was willing to sacrifice herself to the sea if that ritual was going to end the COVID-19 pandemic, was indeed a joke,” he added.
The parliamentarian said that SJB was ready to support the government to overcome the COVID -19 pandemic. “We have noticed that the government has become habitual of criticising the statements of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. However it would be better if the government allows the Opposition to join hands in the fight against the current pandemic,” he said.
On a different note the SJB MP said that Mr. Premadasa would take whatever decision politically if the SJB allies- SLMC and ACMC failed to take action against their MPs who voted in favour of the 20th Amendment.
