The Samagi Jana Balwegaya (SJB) yesterday urged the people to impose a self-lockdown without waiting for the government to impose an official one.

This request was made on behalf of the party by two MPs Eran Wickramaratne and Mujibur Rahman.
Mr. Rahman told Daily Mirror that requesting the people to go for a self-lockdown is the official stand of the party.
Meanwhile MP Wickramaratne told a press conference yesterday that people should stay at their homes without going out for any purpose. “Time has come for the people to take care of their own safety without depending on the government. Therefore act as if there is a curfew imposed in the country. There is no point in criticizing the government now,” he said.

“The advice given by WHO that Sri Lanka should impose restrictions similar to ones which were imposed in May this year should be followed. WHO has warned that 18,000 more people will die of COVID by January 2022 in addition to the present figure which is nearly 6000 if proper restrictions are not imposed,” he added.
MP Rahman called for the reduction of the amount charged for PCR. He said the stipulated controlled price of Rs. 6500 is also exorbitant compared to other countries such as India where the amount is 2600 in Sri Lankan rupees while it is only Rs. 2300 in Bangladesh which is also in Sri Lankan rupees
