The cabinet that met on Monday (09) has given the green light to the Sri Lanka Police to enter into Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with overseas Police establishments in a bid to improve its efficiency, surveillance, intelligence and also to make it technology savvy, Co-Cabinet spokesman, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.
Under the MOUs to be signed, the Sri Lanka Police will mainly focus on 17 fields including terrorist activities, terrorist financing, narcotic and drugs related crimes, human trafficking and money laundering, cyber-crimes etc., Minister Rambukwella added.
Entering into bilateral collaborative agreements with overseas Police organisations performing Police activities efficiently utilising modern technology, is observed to have been the most successful way of exchanging experiences, knowledge, skills, internationally recognised best practices of modern Police duties and standards for our Police officers, he said.
“The Sri Lanka Police in a steady collaborative and inter-agency mechanism will constantly go into exchange of intelligence, exchange of officials for training, sharing experience and technology and regular interaction on specially agreed upon subjects with regional and global Police Forces,” Minister Rambukwella said.
The proposal had been submitted by the Minister of Irrigation and the State Minister of Internal Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management, Chamal Rajapaksa.
