Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Former President Maithripala Sirisena said the SLFP would join hands with several other political parties that could contribute to the uplift of the country and form an alliance to contest the next general election in the hope of forming a government.
Addressing the District Conference of the party at the Vavuniya town hall he said during his rule the people were not burdened with the high cost of living as today and steps had been take to provide all incentives to the farmer to boost agriculture in the country.
He said people were facing hardships due to the spiraling cost of living, power cuts, fuel shortages and for want of fertilizer for agriculture.
“The SLFP as a major political party is determined to form a government to resolve the issues affecting the people today. The party is now being strengthened to contest future elections. With this in view the SLFP would join hands with several brotherly political parties that are able to contribute to the forward march of the country. The people are not pleased with the present situation due to the socio–economic issues affecting them. Unemployment is a major issue facing the youth. Educated young men and women are leaving the country. They should be provided the opportunity to contribute to the development effort. The rulers will be happy only if the people are happy. The SLFP has realized the hardships faced by the people.” He further said
Minister of Labour Relations Nimal Siripala De Silva, State Ministers Dayasiri Jayasekara, Duminda Disanayake, Parliamentarian Suren Raghavan, and several local politicians representing the SLFP were present at the occasion.
